Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and the provider named above ("we", "us"). They cover the Cringy app for iPhone and Android and the website cringy.io (together, "Cringy"). By using Cringy, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use Cringy
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18 and the law in your country requires a parent's or guardian's consent (for example in some countries of the European Union), you need that consent before using Cringy. If you buy a subscription, you must be old enough to do so under the rules of the App Store or Google Play.
2. What Cringy does
Cringy reads a chat export file that you choose, computes statistics on your phone, and, with a subscription, creates an AI report about the conversation. The Privacy Policy explains which parts of the chat are sent to our server and AI providers to make that report.
3. The report is for entertainment
The report is made for fun. It is not advice about relationships, mental health, law or anything else, and it is not a fact about any person.
- AI can be wrong. It can misread jokes, slang, context or languages, and it can make mistakes about who said what.
- Some cards, like "times they blocked you", are estimates based on patterns in the chat. They can be wrong.
- Statistics depend on the export file. If the file is incomplete or in a format we read badly, the numbers can be off.
Please do not make important decisions based only on the report, and do not use it to accuse, shame or pressure anyone.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to:
- only analyze chats that you are part of (you sent or received the messages),
- respect the privacy of the other people in the chat, and follow the laws that apply to you,
- not use Cringy or its reports to harass, threaten, stalk, blackmail, shame or harm anyone,
- not upload other people's private data to harm them, or chats you got without permission,
- not post someone else's private messages from a report in a way that harms them or breaks the law,
- not try to break, overload, copy, reverse engineer or get around the limits or payments of the app or our API, except where the law allows it,
- not use Cringy with content that is illegal, including any content that sexually exploits minors.
We may limit or end your access if you break these rules.
5. Your content
Your chats stay yours. You give us permission to process the parts of the chat that the app sends (as described in the Privacy Policy) only to create your report and run the service. You are responsible for having the right to use the chats you choose.
6. Subscriptions and auto-renewal
Some features, including the AI report, need a paid subscription. We offer weekly and yearly auto-renewing subscriptions. The price and length are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency where available.
If you buy on iPhone or iPad (App Store)
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price of your plan.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings (Settings > your name > Subscriptions) after purchase.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused part of the free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
If you buy on Android (Google Play)
- Payment is charged to your Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it before the renewal date.
- You can manage or cancel it in the Google Play app (profile icon > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions).
- If a free trial is offered, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before that. Any unused part of the trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
Price changes
If we change the price of a subscription, Apple or Google will tell you before it applies, following their rules. Where the law or the store requires your agreement to a higher price, you will be asked.
Fair use
To keep Cringy working for everyone, we limit how many new AI reports one device can run (currently 20 a day). Very heavy use in one billing period may get a lighter AI model, or may have to wait until the subscription renews. Opening a report for the same chat again does not count as a new report.
7. Restoring purchases
Your subscription is linked to your Apple ID or Google account and to the random device id the app creates. If you reinstall the app or change phones, use "Restore purchases" in the app while signed in to the same store account. See Support.
8. Refunds
Payments are handled by Apple or Google, so they decide on refunds under their own rules. We cannot give refunds directly.
- App Store: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play: ask in your Google Play order history, or follow Google Play's refund help page.
Nothing in these terms takes away any right to a refund or a withdrawal that you have under the law of your country.
9. Our app and content
Cringy, its design, code, name and logo belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and the rules of the store you got it from.
10. Changes and availability
We may change, add or remove features, or stop offering Cringy. We try to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. If we stop the service while you have a paid subscription, we will tell you in advance where we can, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
11. Disclaimer
Cringy is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that the reports are accurate, complete or fit for any purpose.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, relationships, reputation or profits, that come from using or not being able to use Cringy or from any report. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Cringy in the 12 months before the claim.
Some countries do not allow these limits. In that case they apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Cringy at any time by deleting the app. Remember to cancel your subscription in the store too. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if the law requires it.
14. Apple App Store terms
If you got Cringy from the Apple App Store:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app does not meet a warranty that applies by law, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that it does not meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If someone claims the app infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for handling that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country under a U.S. government embargo or listed as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must also follow the terms of any third-party service you use with the app, such as your chat apps.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
- Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, except where these terms give you more rights.
If you got Cringy from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.
15. Governing law
If you are a consumer, the laws of your country of residence apply where those laws require it, and you can bring a claim in the courts of your country. Otherwise, these terms are governed by the laws of the place where the provider named above is registered, without regard to conflict of law rules.
Before going to court, please email us first. Most problems can be solved quickly that way.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is important. If you keep using Cringy after the change, you accept the new terms.
17. Other
If one part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a part right away, we do not give up the right to do it later. You may not transfer these terms to someone else. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Cringy.
